Café Klima inspired by Active Hope
From pessimism to active hope 💫
🌏 There are moments when I feel that it’s pointless to try to make something of this world when I see how much destruction humanity causes. And I find it difficult to talk about this with, others because the optimist made me feel misunderstood and the pessimist only deepened my miserable feeling. I felt most at home with those who had similar feelings, but also wanted to move forward.
📖 The qualities I found in these people, I also found in Joanna Macy’s ’The Work That Reconnects.’ In the accompanying spiral, she has four steps: ’coming from gratitude’, ’honoring our pain for the world’, ’seeing with new eyes’, and ’going forth’. What I really appreciate about this method is that both the heavy and the light are allowed to coexist. Even though I can feel really terrible at times, I usually can manage to shift towards gratitude. This provides a good foundation to really start feeling the pain you’re experiencing. And although it doesn’t change the situation, I come out of it with fresh courage which helps to move forward again.
This is what Joanna Macy calls ’active hope’. Staying hopeful but also being active in creating what you hope for.
💚 I not only use this as a inspiration in my life but also for the work we do at Café Klima. If you want to learn more about this, I can recommend you the book ‘Active Hope’ written by Joanna Macy and Christ Johnstone. There are plenty of workshops offered to do this work together and there’s an online course. I’ll put the link in the comments. Of course, you can also join our next Café Klima where we’re goign to integrate parts of ’active hope’.
Share with us what inspires you to move forward ⬇
I’m Lina Baranowski 🌿 and together Fanny Bronès we created Café Klima because we believe that connecting people helps to face disruptions of the world and inspire them to move towards and enjoy a livable society. Café Klima consists of a mix of collective and individual exercises tailored to the goal, target audience, and actualities. If you want to know more about this exercise or what Café Klima can do for you, please contact us.
